The Par 3's are long holes and many of the Par 5's are difficult. On four holes on the back nine you have to hit your drives/fairway woods over the estuary which is difficult for high handicappers. The best thing about the course is that it winds through some canyons and, therefore, the high hills that surround the canyons blocks the winds from the ocean.

Challenging, yet beautiful layout. Fairways were a bit ragged in places, the "rough" was very ratty and unkempt, but the greens were fast and true. I expected it to be in better condition for the reputation it has. Got this at a bargain price, so I don't know that I would play it for the full price... would have lost a lot of value points for the full $120 with cart. I would recommend it based on the layout and beautiful surroundings. Great amenities, but tending toward the expensive side for refreshments. Overall, it was a great golf experience for the bargain price but wouldn't go out of my way for the full ticket.

The employees in the club house and pro shop are not very friendly, and I have noticed this on seveal occasions. This is a nice course in a beautiful setting near the beach, they try to put themselves out there as a word class resort but they are not there. They should humble themselves a little and cater to the people who actually use the place noth those whom they won't get there.

Two different course layout between the front and back nine. The back nine saves this course.

this course has to be evaluated after playing it a couple of timess. My first time here I didn't think much of it. I am a 3 handicapper and find this course a true challenge from the back tees. The course has two personalities - the front nine is carved back into the hills back behing the clubhouse and the back nine is on the front ocean side weaving across an afterbay off the ocean. The weather is always mild and the course is maintained better than most. They have a wonderful bar and restaurant. The only real down side is the driving range which is not up to par with the resto fo the course. They offer coupons in REDDOT so you can play 2 for 1 anytime. This is one my favorite central coast golf stops

This course is poorly maintained and is a funky design. Some holes are decent, but others are odd. Most holes with doglegs go left.

Course was in great shape, greens were firm and rolled true and great!!! If paying full price, a little over priced, but look for discounts and WELL worth it. Fun course to play!

Avila offers a challenging course, in an excellent setting, for a reasonable price. They also offer a "Club" which entitles members to green fee, club house, and pro shop discounts. It also allows members to Tee time reservation priority by allowing week in advance reservations. The course is pretty well maintained and pace of play is better then average. I would also rank it as one of the tougher public courses in the area.

Greens had been punched and sanded about four days before we played, and it rained the night before, so there were a few soggy spots, which is the only reason I said the conditions weren't good. I've played the course once before -- and I really do like it a lot. Challenges on almost every hole, and a few incredible views. Definitely on my list of "play every chance I get."

The course requires good ball stricking to be able to make par on each hole. The Greens are getting a little tired. But as a high handicaper (15) I am happy when I score a Par on any of the holes

This older style course is charming yet quirky. Very little earth was moved when it was built so many of the fairways are sloped and an off shot will leave your ball rolling into a ravine or thick brush. We actually had to search around to find the tee box on a few holes. We enjoyed seeing deer grazing nearby and enjoyed the experience altogether.
